Planning Underway for 2026 Leeds Walk: Leeds in the 1960s

Planning for the 2026 Leeds Walk officially began on January 29 with the first formal organizational meeting of the Leeds Trails & Tours Leeds in the 1960s Walk Committee, held at the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library.

Community volunteers and partners gathered to outline the vision, layout, programming, and logistics for the upcoming historic walk, scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, in downtown Leeds. An inclement weather date of April 25, 2026, has also been set.

The Leeds Walk will invite the public to step back into the 1960s through live music, reenactors, historic displays, food, and interactive experiences highlighting a pivotal decade in the city’s history. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

During the meeting, committee members discussed the event footprint along Parkway from 7th Street to 9th Street, including Merchants on Main, food trucks, live music stages, and the historic Leeds Railway Depot. Indoor experiences will include a Leeds 1960s Museum at the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library, along with decorated storefronts reflecting businesses active during the era.

Music and programming will be a central focus, with plans for live performances, a featured stage, and continuous 1960s music throughout the downtown area. Local restaurants, food vendors, and community partners will help create a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.

“The Leeds Walk continues to be a way for our community to come together, celebrate our shared history, and tell Leeds’ story in a fun and engaging way,” organizers said. “This first meeting marked an important step toward bringing the 1960s to life.”

The 2026 Leeds Walk is organized by the Leeds Historical Society, Inc., in partnership with the City of Leeds, Leeds Main Street, Leeds Jane Culbreth Library, Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce and numerous community organizations and local businesses.

Additional planning meetings are scheduled in the coming months as volunteers continue refining event details and recruiting participants, reenactors, sponsors, and performers.
